In the mid 90’s we brought back the draft horse to Geers Farms. Our first team of mares, Kate and Gwynne, was purchased and brought the farm out of field production and into animal husbandry once again. Kate and Gwynne are still with us and are the foundation mares for most of the bloodlines we maintain.
“Today’s Belgian is a big, powerful fellow that retains the drafty middle, a deep, strong foot, a lot of bone, the heavy muscling and amiable disposition possessed by the early Belgians. His qualities as an easy keeper, a good shipper, and a willing worker are intact.” (www.belgiancorp.com)
The Belgian draft horse is an all around good farm team. Their gentle disposition and willingness to work make them an excellent addition to any farm. Our Belgians are well suited for working in the woods, plowing the fields, baling hay, or pulling a group of farm guests through the field.
